Customer Feedback

Hi Gregg,

Just thought I would touch base. I purchased your 2mm overbore piston kit for my 03 SV650 last year, along with other parts, resulting in consistent placing as the 2nd or third fastest SV650 in Western Australia. The first guy was simply a better, more experienced rider- you can't buy that!

I wanted to say how happy I was with your product. With little more that your (fantastic) engine internals and a GSXR shock I was within 1 second of the fastest SV. His bike was fully set up with pensky shock, ohlins fork internals, slipper clutch, race pattern gearbox about 3 sets of wheels with various slicks and wets etc etc etc.

I had some race glass, one set of DOT race tyres that I used to make do for about 2 race meets and practices and your engine internals.80hp on the dyno with only a power commander and air filter. Doesn't sound like much, but with his superior corner speed going up the steep hill out of turn 6 onto the main straight I was able to claw back onto his wheel.

High praise for your engine components!

Regards,

Matt Roach

Gregg,

Hey Gregg. Just wanted to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for all the time you spent with me helping me make the right decisions about what I needed and not trying to talk me into just spending a lot of money. My '99 SV650 made 75 HP on the dyno last week, just like you said it would, and this past weekend we went to Jennings GP for a track day and had the pits full all day with people asking what I had done to the bike. It runs STRONG! Again Thank You, you have my business forever!

Hi Gregg,

Just wanted to give you an update on the bikes. I decided not to take the G2 bike to Thunderhill because there's some issues with it that I want to fix first. Minor stuff like bent clip-on etc.

But what really blew me away was the slipper clutch and electric shifter! Those two mods should be essential upgrades for any SV. HUGE difference in ride ability. The bike just sails into corners now and is much more stable. The shifter is very smooth and allows mid-corner shifts without upsetting the chassis.

Thanks for your help in getting everything together for me and for doing flawless work. Everything worked perfectly.

Hi Gregg,

Hope all is well with you in the USA. Just a quick line to say thank you for all your help in building my SV this year. The bike is really flying now thanks to your advice and parts. Included are a couple of action shots of me road racing (public roads) this year.

Many thanks & talk to you soon,

Des Butler / #91

Hey Gregg,

I just wanted to say thank you for help and support for this past racing season, with your help I was able to finish first in points in LWGP and second in points in GTL at Loudon as an amateur.

Thank you Gregg!

Hi, Gregg

Just wanted to let you know that I got the bike out to the track today. First of all, it worked all day which for me was a miracle in itself! You did a fantastic job! The bike is totally different than what it had been before. I still need to get used to the electric shifter, it's great and works like a charm and the brakes are great!!! So next on the list might have to be horsepower… although the real goal is faster lap times as-is! Thanks so much.

Joe Franzetta

Hello Gregg. Thanks again for all your help with my SV650. The full M4 exhaust system is amazing and exceeded my expectations on every aspect of quality, craftsmanship, performance, and most definitely sound. The jet kit you supplied with the system, along with personal recommendation on proper jetting/tuning was also above and beyond. All recommended carb settings are in the "ballpark", even on the first try. The new sound of my SV is perfect - not too loud, not too quiet; and I have received an abundance of compliments and questions. Customer service at Spears Enterprises is by far the best around, and I certainly can't wait to do business again in the near future.

P.S. I will be sending you pictures of my SV soon, i'll keep you posted.

Thanks again!

Bill

Hi Greg! I was looking at your website and am honored to see my pictures in there, especially next to Nicky Hayden! I then found your listing of championships won with your motors and noticed that my '06 WSMC GT-lites championship is not there. So tally up another Spears Racing championship to your long list (I'd also like to add that I won every GT-lite race I entered 2 years running...).

Again, thank you for all of your support and your patience with all my pesty phone calls last year. See you at Laguna this weekend!

Tim Martinez, WSMC #30

My step-son Sean and I finally got a chance to exercise the SV650 that you helped us build. We went out for a day in the twisties this weekend and we both thoroughly enjoyed the bike. The SV has always been a fun bike to ride but the extra power provided with your cams, the new carbs and new exhaust added a whole new dimension to the experience. Now it responds briskly anywhere from 5,000RPM and really gets fun above 9,000RPM. We had a blast switching bikes and both of us wanted more time on the SV.

It's been great working with you throughout the project. Thanks for the good products, the help when we needed it and all of the great advice all along the way. We couldn't have done it without you.

Hey Gregg - I can't say enough about this bike I bought from you. It gave me an oddball weekend with WSMC Saturday and Sunday. I ran away with another first in the 20 lap solo GT-Lites race and would have finished first overall from the second wave of a two wave start (the first wave being 250 and 125 GP bikes) except for a red flag on lap 14. I had a half lap on second place at that point and had three more bikes to pass to take the overall lead! Yahoo!! I LOVE THIS THING!!! I have some photos I will send you. I'm having the time of my life.. Thank you so much!

Greg I got the motor together and had my first track weekend at Beaverun (Pittsburg, PA.) Anyway I took it easy the first day. But on Sunday I let here rip; WOW!! Stock 600's don't have a chance. I knocked 2 seconds off my best lap time.

Thanks,

Thanks for the SV wheel spacers, preload adjusters and gold valve emulators - excellent quality pieces with really nice machining. I will wear my Spears T with pride.

First off, thank you to everyone who provided me ideas on where my problem may have been located. The award goes to Gregg Spears! He hit it right on that I had popped a freeze plug. Rear cylinder of course! Here's the long version ..

I drained the oil and it was milky white, I mean like a chocolate milkshake color. So I pulled the radiator, and it was similar. Uh-oh, potential for a big problem. So it seemed logical that I could have popped a freeze plug, and with Gregg's words of wisdom, I pulled the front valve cover – nothing but disappointment. So, wrestle the tank off, etc. and check the rear…halleluiah, it's a popped plug. Took a quick timeout for a happy dance around the garage, anticipating a quick and reliable fix. Now find the plug and hammer it back it. NO PLUG! I couldn't't find it anywhere. Prodding, poking, but finding nothing. OK, pull the head and take a closer look. Of course I accidentally pull the cylinder too, but find nothing. What to do, what to do? Called the local shop (Montgomery Cycle Center) and they suggested I pull the right side cover, maybe the plug fell down through the timing chain cavity. So, pull the cover (I wanted to reseal the water pump anyway) and sure enough, there it sits. Balanced on a shaft housing, just waiting for me to put the bike in gear, lean it over and grind the plug up in the tranny. OK, time for another happy dance.

Went to order all the necessary seals, etc. and guess what, the Suzuki parts fiche doesn't even include freeze plugs! They have no part number and no way to order one! Gregg Spears to the rescue again! I called Gregg and he sent out a plug and a couple of gaskets that of course he has on hand, but the dealer must order.

So, I am getting everything ready to put it back together, and I'm short a head bolt washer! Where the heck did that thing go? After a couple of hours of searching in the bike, around the bike, and under everything in the garage, no luck. Do I dare put the bike back together not knowing for sure that the washer isn't somewhere in the engine, waiting to bite me in the rear? Sure, why not. Gregg Spears to the rescue again! Gregg called me at home to see how everything was going. I explained my latest predicament and Gregg gently, but firmly told me is was a bad idea put the bike back together without making SURE the washer wasn't somewhere I could find it. So, pull everything apart again and clean it up. Wouldn't you know it, I found the washer. Jammed in one of the intake valve springs. Time for another happy dance!

So I took my time and put everything together slowly and followed another of Gregg's suggestions: marking each bolt as torqueue them with a Sharpie pen. Check the timing, double check the timing, triple check the timing. Crank it over by hand about 100 times, grit my teeth, close my eyes and punch the starter.....AND IT ROARS TO LIFE! Oh, happy day, time for another happy dance! I've changed the oil four times and the antifreeze three times and the fluids are looking pretty clean. Another time or two for each and I should be ready for the riding season!

My sincerest thanks to Gregg Spears for his knowledge and willingness to help out someone he doesn't even know. And my thanks to everyone in this newsgroup for all of the wonderful discussion about our fantastic bikes!

Doug

Mr. Spears:

I got the SV650 preload adjusters I ordered in time to do the job this weekend (the job being installing the Race-Tech .8 kg/mm springs, 20wt fork oil, and your adjusters), and I am amazed at the difference that this has made in this machine. It feels balanced with the stock shock, there's a new precision over bumps, and hard braking is not so alarming as before (I know that for the first time my CBR-riding son felt empowered to do a stoppie on it in front of me, dooh!). Your pieces were an integral part of this transformation: While it feels just right to me as it is, I will probably turn it back one turn and remeasure when and if I ever stop riding it long enough to gather the whining crowd that I need to help me measure static sag.

Gregg,

Sorry for the delayed response. I was away racing in Spokane for a few days. The new cover is in place and works great! (Though, thankfully it's resilience was not "tested" this weekend.) As far as my "incident" was concerned, I would have the following to say about the cover:

Turn 4 at Spokane is a hard-braking corner. Unfortunately, my front brakes malfunctioned, causing the bike to low-side at high speed. The bike went down on the right side and actually stayed on the track for 40 feet or so before it stopped in the dirt. It spun on the clutch cover and broke a small piece off of it. Despite this, the cover STILL didn't leak any oil! I was glad I chose to run a Spears cover as it held together through a rigorous test.

Gregg, I would guess I was traveling between 80 and 100 mph when this happened, most likely closer to 100, but it's hard to say. It was a strange crash, as most are, so the details become a bit foggy. I hope this is what you were looking for! Any other info needed, e-mail me.

Thanks again for the trouble-free warranty Gregg. It's nice to run products from companies that stand behind what they sell!

Katie

Hi Gregg,

It was great meeting you at Willow Springs in June! I finally got a photo of the clutch cover and a few of me at Mosport International Raceway after I had the cover installed.

Thankfully I never got to test its durability. No leaks at all and a perfect fit - what more could I ask for.

Cheers,

Rob
